Sample Unit: Body Positivity
“Learning To/Love”
This unit was created for my student teaching internship, intended for high school, grades 9-12. This unit examines and deconstructs body positivity and neutrality frameworks present in today’s society and further discusses the respresentation we see on social media platforms. Utilizing Language of Dance body part symbols, students identify body parts that they love, and that they are learning to love. By creating a solo about all the body parts they love, students are able to express, honor, and celebrate their body identities, for all that they are, and all they will continue to be.

These three lessons resulted in student choreographed solos, expressing, honoring and celebrating their body identities.
